Since this is our first Christmas together (married) and our first house, we thought it would be fun to get a real tree this year. We found out about a tree farm only 20 minutes from Birmingham where you can cut down your own tree...very fun and romantic. Lee had off this weekend so Saturday we headed out to the farm. Who knew there would be so many trees to choose from! Of course, we had a height limit so it made it a little easier, but there were still tons of choices. We finally found one and Lee worked hard to chop it down. I helped finish it off as you can see in the pictures. So now we have our tree...next is putting it up.
Everyone seemed to be out of tree stands, but we finally found one at Kmart. Well, it was crap! Didn't work at all. Our tree kept falling over and at one point almost took out our china cabinet! So, after 2 hours of jury-rigging (had to look that one up), on to plan B...get a new tree stand. Lee finally went to another Home Depot and got a really heavy iron one. No problems now! It stands up great. We got the lights on and all of our ornaments that our moms had put aside for us. Lee had fun looking through all of his that he's had his whole life. Plus, we got several ornaments last year for our wedding so it was fun using them for the first time.
Once the tree was up, it was on to the outside of the house. Lee spent all afternoon on the roof clipping in the icicle lights across the front. They look great! I still have a few more things to decorate but overall, our house is very cozy and "Christmasy."
After spending all day decorating, we had a Christmas dinner with the Houstonians. The Graham's hosted and the Usery's came too. It was a fun night to all be together and celebrate Christmas!
